Gas appliances are highly efficient but that does not mean that they are always safe. In most cases they are far more dangerous than the electric versions because they work from a plain of fire rather than a heating coil or loop as the electric versions do. For this reason there are a good many
hazards that can come along with installing one of these appliances. There is the matter that a gas leak could occur and many more. To curb this issue you need to make sure that you are following all of the proper procedures to make certain that everything is being done safely without the slightest chance of danger.
The main safety item that one can come across is the gas fittings. These fittings are in place to make sure that you are not going to have any kind of dangerous leaks. Over the years there have been a good many new fittings that have come along. For a short time they were even using plastic but that proved to be too dangerous and they were banned. In most cases you will be using brass or iron fittings. Both of these fittings are very good for use on the gas appliances and if they are set inside the home then they should never leak. When you are using these kinds of fittings you should also be using pipe or thread tape. This means that you will have no chance that you will be getting a leak down the road at the threaded portion of the pipe.
Use only the most high quality pipe. The gas line pipe that is used to power the gas appliances is normally referred to as black pipe and it is heavy and thick iron. There are companies that sell factory seconds of this pipe but you should never use it for the fitting of gas. With the factory seconds you can have weak portions in the walls of the pipe.
If these weak spots burst you will have a major gas leak and that could prove highly dangerous. Always use the best and do it right the first time around. Make sure that you have the right size of pipe that will match with the existing lines that are running into the home.
Always make sure that the gas is off to the home before attempting any kind of appliance installation. This is one of the most important safety tips. The smallest spark can ignite the gas and that could turn into a major explosion in an enclosed area.
